Batsi beach Andros

The Andros holiday resort of Batsi is located on the western side of the island, surrounded by a very picturesque bay area and backed by hills of olives and cypress.
Batsi is the main holiday beach resort of Andros island and it is blessed with a good south-facing sandy beach, set in a shelterd bay with a pretty harbour area and plenty of tavernas and bars along the shore.
The main road curves around the bay directly behind the beach and the road is lined with hotels, apartment blocks, tavernas and shops. A very large car park is sited on wasteland in the centre of the resort. At the eastern end of Batsi beach a first-floor gallery is filled with taverna tables that overlook the main beach.
The water is shallow and safe for children, so Batsi beach is a good spot for famiies. There is more shade at the western end where tamarisks run between the beach and the main road.
Batsi beach is also very sandy and it is split by a small fresh water stream that runs from a gulley beneath the road.
The beach widens at the western end where there is a small harbour area just around the headland. It is here that ranks of sunbeds are laid out along the shore.
Its popularity as the best beach resort on Andros has led to considerable development on the hills surrounding the bay where tiers of new apartment blocks spill down what was once an attractive hillside.
As well as the main Batsi beach there are several small coves within walking distance, most notably at Stivari, Agia Marina and Agios Kyprianos.
