The resort of Hora is located on the eastern side of Andros and is the island's capital town.
Hora is built on a narrow spit of land that fractures into a tiny archipelago of barren islets. There is a beach area called Paraporti to the south - a flat grey sand and shingle swathe bisected by a stream and backed by tamarisk trees.
To the north of Hora road runs around the bay to the small port, too shallow to take ferries that use the deep water port of Gavrio on the opposite end of the island.
Hora is divided down the middle by the the long traffic-free street of Georgiou Empirikou where there are shops, cafes and artists' studios.
On this street is the main Hora square with a fountain and cafes. The town has many neoclassical buildings, an indication of the wealth that the island of Andros once enjoyed. These include numerous museums, galleries and libraries.
