BARBATI beach lies on the north-east coast of the island, 18km north of Corfu Town or Kerkyra, the island's capital, and south of the villages of Glyfa and Nisaki.
An impressive mountain backdrop and a long white shingle beach are the main attractions of Barbati. Mount Pantokrator rises steeply behind the resort to create a dramatic setting of white cliffs topped by green cypress and pine.
Barbati is a resort that will appeal to families looking for a quiet beach resort in a relaxed setting and with a limited nightlife.
Barbati can be split into two main areas. The resort on the main road above the beach is much the busier with plenty of traffic. Shops and tavernas are found either side of the main road with smaller roads running south down to Barbati beach.
Barbati village centre has hung on to traditional Greek charm despite the influx of holidaymakers and there is a modest selections of bars, tavernas and restaurants.
Barbati beach lies below in a sheltered bay. It is clean and safe, with a Blue Flag, but there is quite a steep 10 min walk down. The beach is a long stretch of white pebble with fine views across to Corfu Town and to the Albanian coast.
There are showers, toilets and changing rooms on Barbati beach. The water is clean and clear with few urchins and it is gently sloping into the sea.
Barbati is a relaxed family beach which tends to be quiet and gets even more peaceful in the evenings. There are a few tavernas and snack bars at the back of the beach and more lively ones up the hill on the main Barbati road.
There are plenty of sunbeds, boat trips and watersports, while the neighbouring beach resort of Nissaki is only a short boat ride away.
