Benitses beach Corfu

BENITSES Corfu once had a wild reputation for its nightlife, but the youngsters have long since decamped south to Kavos and this once-lively resort has lost much of its glitter.
Benitses is much more sedate these days. Although it is not entirely free of the scourge of occasional young Brit yobs on bar-crawl booze-ups their appearance is increasingly rare.
Many local believe that Benitses is better for it and the resort is still very busy, despite the lack of a good beach.
Benitses can be found about 7km south of Corfu Town. The resort is strung along the east coast for about 1km. It is split into two main parts, north and south. The north has the beach and the livelier bars and restaurants while the south is more peaceful and up-market.
Benitses beach is the resort's biggest disappointment - just a pebble and shingle strip covered in sunbeds. There are some low-key watersports and there are regular boat taxis to Corfu town and excursions to the nearby islet known as Mouse Island.
Benitses boasts a well-known shell museum, which has not only shells galore but also plenty of stuffed fish and shark jaws. For walkers there is a well-marked path into the hills to some water springs.
Benitses has been a popular holiday resort for years and studios, apartments and hotels can be found everywhere. Regular buses go north to Corfu Town and south to Moriatika and there are always plenty of taxis about.
