Agios Georgios beach Corfu

AGIOS GEORGIOS or ST GEORGE beach is tucked away in the north-west coast down a very twisty road about 50km from Corfu Town. It is a small holiday resort and treasured by those who prefer a quiet and restful holiday.
Though Agios Georgios has seen increasing tourist interest for some years, development has generally been low key and has not spoiled the natural beauty of the bay, which should be distinguished from a resort of the same name further south along the west coast.
Agios Georgios resort is set on flat land formed at the mouth of a wide valley, with rocky headlands on either side. There are several houses, some small hotels and some apartment blocks and tavernas along the beach road.
All around Agios Georgios are olive and citrus groves with the wooded hills dotted with tall, pencil-thin cypress trees.
There is a good choice of tavernas in Agios Georgios, a couple of small minimarkets and a few tourist gift shops. There are motorbikes and mountain bikes for hire and even a small bowling alley and billiards hall.
Agios Georgios beach is a fine swathe of good sand, a little narrower in the south. It is sandy under the water but it does shelve quite steeply into the sea, so children have to be watched.
There are plenty of sunbeds on Agios Georgios beach and large blue bins for rubbish. Watersports are on offer and include jet skis, windsurfing and ring rides. At the northern end of the beach is a scuba diving centre.
The local villages of Afionas and Pagi have tavernas and bars with splendid views over the bay of Agios Georgios.
