Agios Georgios south Corfu

AGIOS GEORGIOS in south Corfu lies just below Lake Korisson on the south-west coast of Corfu island. The long sandy beach has turned this into a very popular resort, but it remains relatively quiet and laid back with none of the nightmare development found at Kavos, only 20min drive away.
Access to Agios Georgios beach is off the road between Corfu Town and Kavos, beyond the village of Argirades where you turn right at a large 'beach' sign.
Agios Georgios beach has a car park at the northern end but it's not very big and most visitors park their cars on the road that runs behind the beach and parallel to it. There is quite a steep slope down to Agios Georgios sands and several access points, most of which include steps.
Agios Georgios beach has soft golden sand that slopes gently into the sea so it's ideal for families with children, although care should be taken as there are steep drops on certain parts of the beach and sand spits that disappear quickly with the tide. Strong currents can also sweep this part of the coast.
Agios Georgios beach has a Blue Flag and there are plenty of beachside cantinas to supply the basics. A wide range of watersports is also on offer, from pedaloes to paragliding. There are also day trips and boat and excursions.
Trees at the back of Agios Georgios beach provide some natural shade but its mostly exposed with a prevailing wind off the sea. There are showers, but for toilets you must use the local beach tavernas.
Agios Georgios beach is very long so it is easy to escape the crowds and a few minutes walk south will reward those looking for peaceful and isolated spots. In fact Agios Georgios is an ideal centre for walkers with paths threading through the surrounding olive groves and up the hill to the inland village of Argirades and great views of coasts on both sides of the island.
To the north are sand dunes leading up to the saltwater lagoon at Limni Korrision, a nature reserve and a must visit for lovers of wildlife. There is a bus service from the main road behind the beach and taxis are available.
