Ipsos beach Corfu

IPSOS or YPSOS is one of the most developed resorts on Corfu island, located just off the main highway to the north of Corfu Town and set against a dramatic mountain backdrop.
Ipsos has now virtually merged with the neighbouring resort of Pyrgi and it is almost impossible to tell the two apart. A very busy road divides Ipsos beach from the main Ipsos resort and parking can be a real problem with most cars left on the roadside.
All the Ipsos restaurants and bars are on the other side of the road from the beach and getting to them means crossing the busy road.
Ipsos has been the clubbers' choice until recently with countless of late-night bars, discos and nightclubs and a large range of restaurants, from cheap fast food to Greek, Chinese and Italian. There are also plenty of souvenir stalls, small shops and mini markets.
The southern stretch of Ipsos, near the harbour, tends to be quieter while the north attracts the teenage hordes. There is no shortage of bars in Ipsos and they range from quiet cocktail bars with wide-screen TV to headbanging late-night music bars.
Ipsos beach is flat and straight, curving gently towards the harbour to the south, and is a mix of shingle and sand. There are steps now and then to get down to the beach where there are plenty of sunbeds forhire. The beach has showers and changing facilities but no toilets - you must use the cafes and tavernas across the busy road.
The water at Ipsos beach is clean with a Blue Flag status and it slopes gently into the sea, although there are stones underfoot. Storm drain outlets poke into the sea at various points but the water is clean.
There are a few trees along the road but generally Ipsos beach is very exposed. There is a wide range of watersports as you'd expect for a resort big on drinking and clubbing. Two large purpose-built jetties at the north and middle of the beach offer water skis, rings, banana rides and parasailing.
The village of Ipsos has a small children's play area and the public pool bars usually have a shallow section. Just behind the main road is a go-cart track. Many of the Ipsos bars have pool tables and gaming machines.
Ipsos transport links are good with a bus service and plenty of taxis. There is a regular daily boat taxi to nearby Barbati beach. Boat rental is are available at Ipsos harbour and many boat cruises run from the main jetty.
