KONTOKALI BAY Corfu is a relatively quiet residential village with a decent selection of shops, tavernas and bars, on the east coast of Corfu, just four miles north-west of Corfu Town.
Kontokali Bay resort runs along a narrow road to the side of the main road in a flat coastal area close to Gouvia and connected to it by the main coast road.
Kontokali is not much of a village, though there are some old buildings, a fine local church and the remains of a castle. Kontokali is noted for its fish tavernas and some even have a 'dedicated' fisherman and a menu that reflects the latest catch. For shopping, most head for Gouvia. There are big supermarkets on the main road to Gouvia to stock up on cheaper provisions.
Kontokali might appeal to families not requiring too much in the way of entertainment as options here are modest. Many Kontokali visitors head off at night to nearby Gouvia for more rowdy nightlife.
Kontokali beach is clean - a mix of sand and fine shingle with shallow water and a gentle slope into the sea so this is a fine beach for families with young children.
Kontokali Beach Hotel covers much of the beach with rows of sunbeds and staff keep the beach clean - it has Blue Flag status. There is a second, smaller beach area to the north that is very popular with locals.
Kontokali Bay is also popular with boat owners thanks to the nearby yacht marina which, along with the Kontokali Beach Hotel, is the focal point of the resort.
There is a regular bus out of Corfu Town that stops on the main road and there is a 10 min walk down the lane to reach Kontokali Bay.
