Moraitika and Messonghi Corfu

MORAITIKA and MESSONGHI have virtually merged to form one massive beach hotel complex on the eastern coastline of Corfu. The area is on a flat coastal plain on the east of Corfu about 30km south of Corfu Town.
Moraitika is the busier end of the resort with large hotels and all the bars, restaurants and nightclubs you associate with a major Corfu resort.
Access to the long Moraitika beach is down small lanes off the main road but parking is very limited and most people park in town and walk down to the beach.
Moraitika beach is mostly sand with a little shingle. There are plenty of sunbeds but the beach can get very busy.
Trees along the back of Moraitika beach provide some natural shade but not much.
Moraitika beach has showers and changing rooms with toilets in the tavernas. There are also plenty of watersports. Buses and taxis are plentiful and there are several buses daily into Corfu Town.
Messonghi is the more peaceful end of Moraitika. It lies about 1km south of Moraitika but is essentially the same place. Land not taken up with tourist development is given over almost exclusively to olive and citrus groves.
The relative peacefulness of Messonghi is a result of the main road skirting the resort rather than going straight through it. Messonghi beach is long and sandy with some shingle and pebble found under the water.
There are plenty of sunbeds and other facilities include changing rooms and showers, with toilets in the many tavernas that sit along the back of the beach. Messonghi beach is clean but doesn't have a Blue Flag.
There are no urchins underfoot so it's safe for children although the beach is exposed with little natural shade. The beach has watersports including paragliding.
Messonghi has a large supermarket and plenty of restaurants and bars both in the resort and along Messonghi beach.
A bus service runs daily into Corfu Town and more frequent services run from Moraitika. The same goes for taxis.
