PALEOKASTRITSA is located on the west coast of Corfu, about 23km from Corfu Town and is home to six beaches in three main bays, all of them sand and pebble.
Paleokastritsa has long been considered one of the most beautiful villages in Corfu and is a renowned Greek beauty spot.
The beaches at Paleokastritsa are enclosed by tall cliffs, wooded headlands, olive groves, lemon and cypress trees and lush vegetation.
The resort at Paleokastritsa runs along the coast road that winds among the cliffs and sheltered bays. The twists and turns bring unexpected views.
There are many walks to be found in the Paleokastritsa area, most notably up to the promontory in the north to the Theotokos Monastery, the 13th century Venetian Castrizza San Angelo and to the hills beyond.
The fame of Paleokastritsa as a noted beauty spot brings in hordes of day trippers throughout the season. Luxury yachts also back up in the bays while coaches can clog up the narrow roads.
The area is also full of large hotels and apartment blocks. In the resort proper there are plenty of tavernas, all of them notoriously expensive.
Cafes and clubs are mostly found on the edge of Paleokastritsa, as are any number of mini-markets and shops selling trinkets and souvenirs.
Local villagers will line the roadsides around Paleokastritsa selling their homemade wine, jars of honey and carved olive to passing tourists.
There are buses to Corfu Town every hour from 8.30am to 6pm. Water taxis also go to Agios Georgios beach.
