Roda beach Corfu

RODA is family beach resort on the north coast of Corfu, about 40km from Corfu Town along the coast road and mostly used by British package tour holiday companies.
It is a shorter but steeper, journey if you head directly over the mountain. Once a quiet holiday village, Roda has grown into a busy tourist resort and the original Roda village has been considerably developed.
Although Roda village can be said to have some pockets of Greek character, it is very much a Brits-on-holiday tourist resort, packed with holiday hotels and with a full range of trinket shops and all-day full-English breakfasts served in the cafes and restaurants.
Roda village is well signposted off the main road but has a weird one-way system around a triangle of streets, with narrow tracks leading down to Roda beach. Parking can be a problem in the main tourist season.
There are plenty of Roda village mini-markets and tourist shops. Tavernas and bars are also plentiful and they range from the traditional quiet taverna to the loud disco-thumping karaoke bar.
Roda beach is long and sandy and very flat with a little shingle now and then. The sand turns to pebble and stone as you head to the east. Roda beach shelves gently into the sea, so it's a favourite for families with youngsters, although there are steep drops in parts - particularly at the eastern end.
There are pleasant rock pools at either end of the beach which are usually free of seaweed and with only a few sea urchins about.
The only real problems with Roda are the thousands of cigarette ends buried in the sand and the occasional piles of litter. Roda beach is also quite exposed, with little in the way of natural shade.
Access to Roda beach is from the main road, down a few steps at various intervals. At the far end of the beach is a small jetty where the local fishermen land their catches. This is also the main point for Corfu island boat trips.
There are the usual beach sun beds and water sports in Roda, with boats to hire as well as horse riding and go-karts. To the west is the Roda Beach Resort hotel holiday complex and beyond that is downmarket Sidari - full of karaoke bars and chips that the British seem to love.
There are regular buses going east and west of Roda village and plenty of taxis.
