Greek island holidays | Thermi Kalithea Rhodes

Therma Kalithea is one of the more glamorous locations on Rhodes and a favourite with photographers. The former health spa with its lido baths built in the Moorish style in pink and white marble with domed pavilions and mosaics in the 1930s are currently under renovation. They were built when Italians occupied this part of Rhodes and the Italian architect Pietro Lombardini designed many of the buildings under the orders of the local Italian Commander Mario Lago
The springs here have been noted for their health benefits from the 7th century BC though the baths were lefts in ruins for many years amd are no longer open to the public for bathing. The spa is set in a small and beautiful bay only 8km so from Rhodes Town with a small beach below the bath house towards Faliraki and several small and attractive coves on either side, noted for their sculpted rock formations.
The main spa beach is a favourite target of day trip boats from Rhodes Town, so it soon fills up with trippers, especially in the high season. The area is also a favourite with Greeks looking to avoid the raucous crowds at nearby Faliraki. There are umbrella and sun beds in each cove, which also seems to have its own cantina.
The sea is deep offshore and there are strong current so only strong swimmers should venture far from the shoreline. A diving school operates from here and many explore the local underwater caves. The site is well marked off the main road and there is a large car park at the entrance. take tracks to the south for the various small sandy coves.
