Ixia and Trianda are the main luxury hotel beach strips for Rhodes Town and lie to the southwest of the city. The strip runs for several kilometres and is home to the most fashionable hotels on the island, some in the five star luxury class, others concentrating on conference facilities and yet more smaller family hotels. They are served by all the tourist paraphernalia such as neon lit bars, international restaurants and cafes and snack bars to meet almost everyone's taste. Most of them are found on the esplanade that runs behind the beach.
The beach is not particularly good, a mixture of sand and pebbles, but then it doesn't need to be. Location is everything here with a long sea front so near to the main city and hotels offering all-inclusive holidays with extravagant swimming pools and five star restaurants. That said there are plenty of facilities on the beaches - sub beds, shows and toilets are plentiful and there are a couple of watersports centres. The beach is north facing so onshore winds can, in high summer, bring heavy swells and crashing waves.
Crowds tend to thin out the further you get from Rhodes Town and it is much quieter when you reach the sand and pebble beach strip at Ialysos.
