KAMARI is a major beach resort for the tourist centre of Kefalos and gets a mixed response from visitors. Some find it a perfect family holiday destination while others report Kamari as being a bit of a disappointment.
Kamari is the beach resort used mostly by holidaymakers staying at Kefalos on the hillside inland and both places considered the same by tourists. Kamari is located about 40km from Kos Town near the western tip of Kos island.
The 5km long beach at Kamari a mixture of sand and shingle. Visitors find shingle at the main harbour end of the beach, closest to the holiday resort of Kefalos that sits behind on the hillside.
Better sand is found further east along Kamari beach and the best bits of sand are found at the Agios Stefanos end of the shoreline. And although this stretch of Kamari beach has been almost wholly commandeered by a large hotel complex there is still plenty of room for everyone.
There are other good stretches on Kamari beach and really, the beach so long that it never seems to get too crowded anywhere along its length.
The long beach at Kamari also gently shelves along the shoreline so it is very safe for children, although it can be a bit more dangerous further out where windsurfers and boats proliferate in the Kefalos bay and children should be watched.
The resort of Kefalos and Kamari beach below are both backed by the rugged volcanic landscape that is typical of this end of Kos island. There are any number of bars and tavernas backing the long Kamari beach.
