KARDAMENA BEACH Kos is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island. Kardamena beach resort is located about mid-way along the south coast of Kos.
Once a small and relatively isolated fishing village about 30km from Kos Town, Kardamena now attracts the young and 'lively' crowd to a brash, commercialised sprawl of English-style pubs, karaoke-night bars, chips-with-everything tavernas, big-screen-TV cafes and racks of tightly packed apartment blocks offering cheap, basic accommodation.
Kardamena is chock full of shops. most lined around the main square, offering a wide range of goods from tourist tat to designer labels. Locally made jewellery and sponges are everywhere, as is the Kos island honey. There are some large supermarkets here to cater for the self-catering crowd.
Kardamena restaurants and tavernas abound, with everything on the menu - from English full breakfast to Indian take-aways. Traditional Greek food is harder to find, but not bad once you do find it.
Kardamena nightlife is as you would expect in a big party resort that caters for the young. It's hardly Ayia Napa but there is plenty going on for most tastes with clubs open until 4am weekdays and 6am weekends. Touts are the usual pestilential nuisance and drinks do not come cheap until you get away from the main Kardamena hotspots.
Kardamena has a long 3km sandy beach, packed with sun beds and with an array of water sports on offer. The main strip follows the sea front so there is no problem getting a drink in the shade, though you will have to pay dear for the privilege.
There is a small marina nearby and a regular Kardamena bus service. There are also dozens of cruise tours to local sights including the Kefalos bay beach strip with lies just the to west around the headland.
