TIGAKI or TINGAKI beach is very long and sandy, pleasant for a morning walk or in the evening to watch to sun set over Kalymnos on the horizon.
The white sand beach of Tigaki lies about 11km from Kos Town along the north coast and can be quite narrow in places but there are plenty of sun beds and the sea is shallow enough for children to wander out quite a distance.
Underwater currents at Tingaki beach can be a problem though and, being north facing, it can sometimes get choppy in the strong winds. Bow waves from passing ferries can also wash away your belongings if you plant yourself too near the shore.
Tigaki beach also has a problem with large clumps of seaweed and you may have to find a 'clean' spot between the underwater banks of foliage, though it's not unpleasant to walk through - it being the brown feathery stuff. There are some water sports too.
The further east of Tingaki beach you go, towards the salt pans, the more likely you are to come across naturists nestling in the dunes. Doughnut sellers parade the most popular sections of the Tigaki beach.
There are plenty of tavernas near the beach and in Tigaki resort proper. Nightlife is contained in the resort and can be loud and lively with clubs and discos banging away until dawn.
There are many small Tigaki hotels and apartments offering rooms. There is an hourly bus service between Tingaki and Kos Town and it is easily reachable by bicycle along the flat coast road.
