The beach at ANAXOS Lesvos is just to the south of the more popular resort of Petra.
Anaxos is particularly popular with British and Dutch tour companies and it has grown considerably in recent years to cater for the family holiday trade.
The beach at Anaxos is made up of coarse, sharp sand and is about 3km long, with plenty of cheap sunbeds and many restaurants both along the beach road and further inland in the village itself.
Anaxos beach is in an excellent spot with views across the bay to Molyvos and an old windmill overlooking the beach. Although rather narrow in parts there is still plenty of room on Anaxos beach and occasional trees offer some natural shade.
There are dozens of apartment and small hotels dotted over the flat plain that lies behind Anaxos village. This may be very much a tourist resort but it is no unattractive and it is still low-key despite the rising numbers of visitors year on year.
Anaxos was never a Greek village as such. It was once only the beach (skala) of Skoutaros village and so it is is sometimes called Anaxos Skoutarou on maps.
The beach area was developed solely as a tourist beach resort and the minimarkets, gift shops, and car and bike hire outlets have all grown for feed the tourist trade.
Holidaymakers who stay in Anaxos have the option of easy drives to the nearby beach at Petra and to the popular and picturesque tourist resort of Molyvos which is within easy driving distance. There is also a frequent summer bus service between Anaxos, Petra, Molyvos and Eftalou.
