Platys Gialos beach Mykonos

PLATYS GIALOS or PLATIS YIALOS is another popular south coast beach of Mykonos and is located about 4km south from Mykonos Town.
Easy to reach, and with a good harbour, many caiques head off from Platys Gialos to beaches all along the Mykonos south coast such as those at Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia. There is also a frequent bus service from Mykonos Town.
Platys Gialos is very much a family beach, with a long stretch of good sand and with substantial beach facilities and plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas to rent.
There was once an attractive rocky headland to the west of Platys Gialos but this has now been pretty much swamped by a massive hotel development.
Not only is Platys Gialos beach well protected from wind by the surrounding hills, the hotels and beach bars are built right up to the edge of the beach and so serve to offer added protection from any northerly winds.
A shallow shoreline makes Platys Gialos an ideal family beach and there is a wide range of watersports on offer including water skiing, jet skis and paragliding.
Behind the beach are hotels and apartments, mini-markets, tavernas and gift shops galore, while Platys Gialos beach has the usual beach bars and beach tavernas.
Walks over the headland from Platys Gialos will take you to Psarou beach in the west and to Paraga beach in the east.
