Platys Yialos or Platis Gialos is another popular south coast beach of Mykonos and about 4km from Mykonos Town. Easy to reach and with a good harbour many caiques head off from here to beaches all along the south coast such as Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia. There is a frequent bus service from Mykonos Town. Platys Yialos.
This is very much a family beach with a long stretch of good sand and substantial beach facilities with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas to rent. There was an attractive rocky headland to the west but this has now been swamped by a massive hotel development. Not only is the beach protected by surrounding hills, there are hotels and beach bars built right up to the edge of the beach to offer protection from any northerly winds.
A shallow shoreline makes this an ideal family beach and there is a wide range of watersports including water skiing, jet skis and paragliding. Behind the beach are hotels and apartments, mini markets, tavernas and gift shops galore while the beach has the usual beach bars and beach tavernas. Walks over the headland will take you to Psarou in the west and Paraga in the east.
