Ornos Mykonos

Ornos is one of Mykonos' busiest family beaches, located on the south west coast and only 2km from Mykonos Town. There is a regular daily bus services as well as frequent caiques and water taxis as well as daily boat excursions to Delos from the harbour which provides some of the best anchorage on the island. The harbour always seems full of expensive yachts. Car parking is not great in the village, though with just a small car park at the main square but there is another car park at the beach.
The amount of building in recent years has turned the whole area into a self contained tourist village with plenty of hotels and apartments and the shops and services to meet the big tourist demand. As well as cafes and tavernas there are shops, mini markets, a butcher, baker and pharmacy.
The well sheltered beach sits on the southern shore of a narrow neck of land. It is long, deep and sandy with a gentle fall into the sea, so it's very popular with families. It's popular, full stop, so there are plenty of tourist facilities here, umbrellas, sun loungers, showers and toilets as well as beach bars and tavernas. There is the usual array of watersports as well as a scuba diving school.
The place is relaxed but crowded, particularly so in high summer despite the size of the sands. It must have once been a spectacularly beautiful spot but hotel development has completely swamped not only the beach area but inland too and it now has a characterless, overcrowded atmosphere completely lacking any charm.
Boat trips leave here not only for Delos but for many other beaches on Mykonos such as Psarou, Elia, Agrari and Paradise.
