Probably the best known beach on the island of Mykonos, Paradise has a beach party reputation that many others strive to beat. Day and night beach parties throb to 24 hour music, blasting from the beach bars. Young people have been attracted in droves, ever since it gained a reputation among backpacking hippies in the sixties and seventies.
It's success has been helped by being one of the most accessible south coast beaches, with a regular bus service and easy access. There are also shuttle buses for specific events such as 'Full Moon Parties' or 'Bubble Parties' and regular water taxis and caiques from Platys Yialos and Ornos.
A local and long-standing campsite also offers apartments, beach cabins and showers under the trees at the back of the beach. The atmosphere is what brochures might call 'lively' with a multicultural mix of young people partying until they drop, sleeping off the hangover then picking up again at about 4pm when beach bars turn up the volume yet again.
There is plenty to occupy those not drinking or dancing. Restaurants, cafes and bars abound and there is the full gamut of water sports - jet skis, water skiing, snorkeling, parasailing, banana boats, tubes, canoes and pedal boats as well as a scuba diving centre. On land there is beach volleyball, horse riding and even a bizarre form of reverse bungee jumping. If you are under 30 and on the island in September it's hard to miss the closing party of the season.
