Nisyros is one of the Dodecanese islets and found between the Greek islands of Kos and Tilos. The main attraction of the Greek island of Nissyros is its volcano which can be reached by car or by foot. In the northwest of the islet is the main town and port of Mandraki. This is where the majority of people live in whitewashed houses, as well as quite a natural stone dwellings. There is a charming main square with several tavernas. East of Mandraki are the hot springs of Loutra with sodium and sulphur rich waters. The only other hamlet is the fishing village of Palli, where tavernas and accommodation can be found. There is no buzzing nightlife here, just pleasant tavernas and traditional kafenion. Greek island tourists can pick up local produce such as the locally made drink Soumada made from almonds, honey, tomatoes and capers. Hand-made embroidery is also sold. There are regular ferry connections to the islands of Rhodes and Kos and the islet is a popular day trip destination with holidaymakers.
