Island photogallery by Matej

I would really recommend to everyone to select Skopelos island for Greek vacation. Skopelos is one of the best kept clean islands in Greece offering both the lazy beach holiday as well as masterpieces of traditional greek island architecture and villages. In addition it has a very pleasant climate. The interior of Skopelos is dominated by deep conifer forests, forgotten dirty paths and plethora of tiny chapels and monasteries. The beaches are not as numerous as in neighbouring Skiathos but they offer intimacy and a relaxed atmosphere. Having experienced Rhodes, Crete or Thassos overrun by tourist and struggling with negative impact of uncontrolled urban sprawl, I would definitely point out Skopelos as one of the best destinations. In Mid June you will avoid the big crowds of tourists and this island has been lucky enough to be saved from the influx of drunken groups of youngsters.

Adrina Skopelos

Adrina is a small beach beneath the hotel with the same name. It has clear water, a beach taverna and is quiet and well kept.

Glossa Skopelos

The second traditional settlement on the island is situated high above the sea on the hills. There is no car access to Glossa and many traditional houses, more authentic than Skopelos town. But it is also neglected in some areas (backyards, blind lanes). Access to the sea is difficult and not worth the effort. Beneath the Glossa village is Port of Loutraki, an average and not very charming place.

Hovolo Skopelos

Hovolo is a similar beach to Milia but much more secluded. The rocks give plenty of shade so this is an ideal choice if you want escape from the noon sunshine.

Kastani Skopelos

Another true gem among the beaches. Near to Panormos and hidden in deep forest, Kastani has a dirt road access but is no problem for cars. There are few people here and it has a very smooth and calm atmosphere, ideal for couples. Silent and inspiring.

Milia Skopelos

Milia is considered the best beach in the island but I don't share this opinion. It has clear water, a wide beach and a taverna hidden in the rocks and trees. There is good access but I got the feeling that something is missing. Maybe the surface – neither sand nor pebbles - maybe the feeling of emptiness and greyness. But I must admit that nearly everybody thinks this is the best beach of the island so don't feel to be put off.

Panormos Skopelos

This fabulous bay at Panormoa, with crescent pebble beach, has the cleanest seawater on whole island. There are a few tavernas, some apartmenta and a lazy atmosphere. It is not a premier resort in terms of high class hotels and traditional architectural structures but the best place for those seeking crystal clear sea, walking the conifer forests or taking the photos of coastal scenery. The bay of Panormos is large enough to find a lonely remote place on the beach and small enough to explore by walking. Definitely recommended.

Perivoli Skopelos

Perivoli beach is pebbled, remote and silent in the northern part of the island. It is the last stop on the road to the end of the world. Worth visit for a lazy afternoon.

Skopelos Town

The main town of Skopelos has very relaxed atmosphere, a good mixture of traditional life and tourist amenities. You will find here both the sleepy lanes where the locals sit in front of their homes, as well as the chic bars or traditional tavernas and many churches and chapels. The town beach is ugly - best avoid it.

Stafylos Skopelos

Stafylos and its twin beach Velanio serve as a first choice for travellers staying in hotels in Skopelos town. They are the only two really organised beaches on the island, offering all the facilities. It the high season it may get overrun by crowds. These beaches resemble Skiathos beaches in terms of atmosphere.

Agios Ionassis

The are some very remarkable rock formations to be found on the road to Agios Ionassis
