Afandou beach Rhodes

The resort at AFANDOU has the longest beach on the holiday island of Rhodes, with a single wide strip of gritty sand and pebble stretching for a straight 7km - so long in fact you can hardly see one end from the other.
Afandou beach is located about 22km from Rhodes Town and is found on the eastern coastal strip between the beach resorts of Faliraki and Kolymbia.
The beach has a couple of tavernas and a beach cantina that opens in the high summer - not many for a 7km stretch and most of this huge beach is deserted for most of the year.
Afandou village is 2km inland from the beach and the flat area between the two is bisected by the busy main road. The area is dotted with apartments and small hotels that are popular with British and German tour companies.
The main road has a few more tavernas strung along it and there are many more cafes, bars and tavernas, to be found in Afandou village proper.
Between Afandou beach and the main road is a links golf course - the only one on Rhodes - and beach visitors from the village can cross one of the fairways to get to the sands or they can take the longer road around. A road runs along the back of the beach for about three quarters of its length so most parts of Afandou beach are easily accessible.
The most popular sections of Afandou beach have the facilities - sunbeds and umbrellas - and some low-key watersports. The beach is so big it never gets crowded and it is so desolate looking it is hardly ever likely to.
The shoreline at Afandou beach dips sharply into the sea where there are large rocks, so its not even pleasant for children. Many holidaymakers staying in the area give Afandou beach a day then head elsewhere.
