KALATHOS beach lies about 6km north of Lindos and 45 km south of the city of Rhodes.
This small traditional inland village has a local population of about 400, but this swells considerably on the summer as numbers pour into the large hotel complexes that have been built in the area in recent years.
Kalathos beach is vast, very deep and about 4km long, and mostly composed of sharp grainy sand and pebbles.
A large hotel complex sits in the middle of Kalathos beach and here there are plenty sunbeds on this section of beach. However, much of the beach to the north remains deserted, even in the height of summer.
At the far northern end of Kalathos beach is a derelict airstrip and control tower left over from World War II.
The pebbles on Kalathos beach can be difficult to walk on and you can only go a few metres into the sea before it drops away sharply so it is not particularly good for families with children.
Kalathos village is on the main Lindos to Rhodes town road, about 800m from the beach, and there is a regular bus service during the day. The village also has several good tavernas and bars, shops and car rental firms.
A cantina, some tavernas and a minimarket can be found on the road running along the back of Kalathos beach.
Kalathos is favoured by those looking for all-inclusive hotel holidays on Rhodes. The advantage of a holiday in Kalathos is that it is very central and makes a good base for exploring Rhodes island, with the beaches of Lindos and Pefkos only a short distance away.
