KERVELI is on the south-east coast of Samos about 8km from Samos Town and 15km from the airport. Kerveli looks towards Turkey from a sheltered bay with access down a narrow 3km road that winds through wooded countryside and olive groves.
Kerveli village has a couple of tavernas, both serving excellent sea food, a mini-market and a scattering of villas and apartments with just a single hotel.
The narrow shingle beach line heavily lined with tamarisk trees against a backdrop of thickly forested hills. The beach is about 200m long with a small jetty and the waters are shallow.
This is a beach of shingle and stone, even under the water, so some beach shoes are recommended if you go swimming.
Relatively isolated, Kerveli beach almost never gets crowded and sunbeds are well spaced apart. A beachfront taverna offers the basics.
The countryside around Kerveli is ideal for walkers with several trails through the local woods and many small coves dotted along the heavily indented coastline.
There is a small folklore museum in the basement of one of the Kerveli Luxury Villas apartments, with a display of turn-of-the-century artefacts from a typical local farm including several farm tools and household utensils along with furniture, clothing, antique cameras and miscellaneous trivia. There is also a selection of Samos wines also on exhibition in the wine cellar.
It is as well to hire a car in Kerveli as there is no public bus service, although you could always try hitching a ride with the Kerveli Village Hotel courtesy bus which ferries guests to and from Samos Town.
