Psili Ammos beach east Samos

The small beach at PSILI AMMOS is about 9km from Samos Town on the south-east coast. The name Psili Ammos means “fine sand” in Greek and that is just what you get.
This Psili Ammos, near to Pythagorio, is not to be confused with another beach of the same name to the west of Samos that lies just beyond Votsolakia.
The eastern Psili Ammos has a deep sandy beach, well protected, with shallow water. There is some natural shade from clusters of tamarisk trees at each end of the beach and several rows of sunbeds are laid out along the western end.
It can get very crowded in the high summer and difficult to move in the crowds that jam the beach among the tightly-packed sunbeds.
A few scattered rocks and an offshore islet add interest while there are good views across the Mykali Straits to Turkey. The very shallow water makes Psili Ammos a good spot for families with children and, at the western end, there is a concrete jetty backed by a couple of tavernas that not only have fine views over the beach and the bay but also serve very good meals.
The eastern end of Psili Ammos beach has no sunbeds and is far less crowded but the sand is just a fine and there is a clutch of shady tamarisks that run almost right down to the shore.
There are no organised watersports here but the shallow waters at Psili Ammos do attract kitesurfers. The nearby salt pans also attracts migrant flamingos each year in December, to the delight of winter visitors.
Road access is good and Psili Ammos is found by following the sign off the Samos Town - Pythagorio road heading towards Mykali and there is good parking here. There are boats from Pythagorio and a summer bus service from Samos Town. Nearby are beaches at Mourtia and Mykali and also at Posidonio and Klima.
