Perivolos Santorini

Combined with the neighbouring Perissa and Agios Georgios, the resort of Perivolos helps make up the longest stretch of beach (at 7km) on Santorini. Which bit of beach belongs to which resort is a mystery as there are no markers although the sands at Perivolos appear distictly lighter than those at Perissa. Perivolos is another beach of coarse grained sand but much of it feels softer underfoot beneath the waves, though there are areas of shingle and rock too.
This is a popular beach with all the facilities you'd expect - beach bars, sun beds, watersports and so on, but Perivolos appears to attract a younger and more lively crowd and can be said, outside Fira, to be a centre for the island club scene. There is plenty of throbbing club music from the beach bars, guest DJs turn up now and then and there are several special events each summer to pull in the crowds.
Those who don't want music throbbing all day long can head for nearby AGIOS GEORGIOS on the southern tip of Santorini which is a bit quieter, though still with beach bars and tavernas.
For even more peaceful surroundings head to VLICHADA where there is a much quieter stretch of beach and a small marina, home to Santorini's Sailing and Yachting Centre. The cliffs behind Vlichada have been sculpted by wind and weather to look more like a moonscape than a Greek resort. There is a beach cantina and sun beds and interesting caves in the limestone rock that date back to Hellenistic times. Nearby, and accessible only on foot is another 'moonscape beach' at ALMYRA.
