AGIA ELENI beach on Skiathos island is a quiet sandy cove that lies just north of, and over the headland from, the more popular Banana Beach.
Agia Eleni is reached by following the tarmac road that runs north out of Koukounaries from the bus terminus and car park. Branch left on this road after about 1km where short paved road leads down to a small car park beneath trees behind the beach.
The west-facing Agia Eleni beach is located about 14km west of Skiathos Town and about 2km north-west of the hugely popular beach of Koukounaries.
Agia Eleni is named after the small blue and white chapel that sits beneath the trees well back from the beach. It is smaller and much quieter than its noisy neighbours to the south and is sought after by those looking for a peaceful spot but with amenities such as sunbeds and tavernas.
The crescent of sand at Agia Eleni is well shaded by pine trees that run right down to the beach and along its whole length. The sand turns to shingle in parts and is not the softest on Skiathos but it is very pleasant nonetheless.
There are a couple of largish beach bars to supply the basics at the northern end of the bay, near the car park where the road runs down to the shore.
The sun shines until late on the west-facing shore at Agia Eleni beach and the sea is very shallow here, so it is good for families and for those who like to linger and enjoy the sunset.
Agia Eleni also has a good reputation with windsurfers as the water in the bay is quite shallow and the wind can get breezy here. The good tarmac road leading right down to the beach means that surfers have no problem getting their gear to the water.
