Tzaneria beach Skiathos

TZANERIA is a small east-facing sand bay located just west of Achladies and about 7km from Skiathos Town at the head of the Kalamaki peninsula.
The name in Greek means 'greengage tree' but you are unlikely to find one anywhere. Sandwiched between two rock outcrops, the area behind the beach is flat fields that lead back up to the main road to Koukounarias and to bus stop 12.
Tzaneria bay is overlooked from the south by the huge Nostos hotel complex spread in an ugly sprawl all down the hillside. The hotel is popular with visiting Americans and is also know for touting its timeshare apartments.
The dominance of the hotel complex on the hillside above Tzaneria beach had led to this beach being sometimes referred to on maps and such as Nostos Beach, although this is not a private hotel beach but a public one.
Tzaneria beach is a small arc of flat sand and is quite deep with a small jetty in the middle where boats can pull in and tie up. Although regularly raked and cleaned the sands always seem to be heavily littered with cigarette ends. There are plenty of sunbeds on offer along the shoreline.
Tzaneria has a good fish taverna at the back of the beach that provides lunchtime snacks and decent evening meals. There are more tavernas nearby.
Tzaneria beach is also home to the Dolphin Diving Center for those that enjoy watersports and there is a frequent taxi boat service between here and Skiathos Town.
