Xanemos beach Skiathos

XANEMOS beach is a real getaway beach - for Skiathos that is - found right at the end of the Skiathos airport runway. Yes - that is the Skiathos Airort runway pictured right.
The beach at Xanemos is set in a small cove only about 3km north-east of Skiathos Town and th beach is mostly pebbles with a little sand.
Never busy or crowded, Xanemos roughly translates from the Greek as windswept and, as the beach is wide open to the northerly meltemi winds that blow throughout August, then you can expect fresh breezes.
In high summer a small cantina opens and few sunbeds are set along the shore but there are no other facilities here and only a few apartments.
Xanemos beach is relatively easy to get to. There is a bus service and a good road with plenty of parking space at the back of the beach.
If you prefer, you can take the coastal path to Xanemos. You get great views across to Skopelos from the cliff walk and there are no steep hills to negotiate in this part of Skiathos island.
As it doesn't get too many visitors, Xanemos beach has become very popular with naturists, although this is not an official nudist beach.
Xanemos is worth a visit if you are looking for something a little different from the usual tourist-heaving sands found on the the rest of Skiathos and also provided, of course, that you don't mind a charter flight screaming overhead from time to time.
