Glyfada beach Thassos

GLYFADA BEACH is only about 2km or so from the main Thassos port of Limenas so it makes a handy out-of-town beach, especially for those holidaymakers staying in the western edge of Thassos Town.
Glyfada beach is easily walkable along the main road, now the town bypass, but there is a steep climb up and over the headland past the Nysteri Hotel before you get to it.
Glyfada beach is pretty much dominated by a large and ugly hotel, built like a shoebox but marginally less interesting and you have to walk though the hotel grounds to get to it. The beach lies beneath the hotel and is mainly sand and shingle.
Glyfada beach is only a narrow stretch of sand but it's pleasant enough and shelves gently into the sea so it's fine for children. There is plenty of natural shade from surrounding trees and there are sun beds courtesy of the hotel.
Glyfada beach is along the main route from the mainland port at Keramouti so car ferries go back and forth all day and the wash from their bows can sometimes catch you unawares. Glyfada is the best of a series of small cove beaches between here and Skala Rachoni.
There are some small patches of sand at Papalimai and Agia Irini and another at Perasma, which has a beach cantina. They are all worth exploring if you are staying west of Limenas or enjoy walking.
There are several tracks leading off the road and into the thick pine woods that are worth exploring and there are several 'undiscovered' coves along this part of the coast that could be yours for the day.
