Considered by some to be the most picturesque beach on Thassos, the white sand bay at Makryammos, about 2km east of Limenas, is dominated by a holiday camp hotel complex of nearly 200 bungalows. The approach from the main road has 'Private' signs - ignore them. The bungalow complex terms the beach 'private' in its literature. Makryammos is not a private beach and there is nothing to stop you wandering through the bungalow complex and down to the sands.
The other approach is by boat and there are several that sail from Limenas daily and pick you up again at teatime. As the sea route is longer than the walk it probably best to do the latter. The beach is sheltered with plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas and the usual facilities you expect on an organised beach.
There is a horrendous self service cafe that serves ketchup coke and chips as well as organised barbecue nights. It's a bit like Butlins with sun.
On the good side it has fine white sand in a lovely bay and forest surroundings so you don't really notice the bungalows behind, though they do mean that the beach is almost permanently crowded. The sea is shallow so it's a good family beach so you shouldn't go here for peace and quiet.
On the bad side the beach is often covered in great mounds of rotting seaweed and pines which attract wasps and flies and then there are the noisy sea sports and of course, that awful cafe.
