Nysteri Thassos

The beach at Nysteri is only a short distance from the capital port at Limenas and an ideal alternative to the town beach, especially for those staying at the western edge among the many apartment blocks that have sprung up in recent years.
It is a short climb along the main road to the top of the headland and the back lies below it though there are several pull-in places along the road where you can park a car and tracks leading down to the beach. Nysteri is a long sandy beach, narrow in places but gently shelving into the sea where it is also sandy underfoot.
The Nysteri Hotel sits on the hillside at the western end of the beach but is well obscured by trees and bushes. The back of the beach has an area of flat tree covered scrub that leads to a small taverna so there is plenty of natural shade. Sun beds and umbrellas are provided by the hotel and taverna and used to be free if you used the facilities but now you must pay.
Paths through the woods at the back of the beach offer plenty of walking for those wishing to explore the area. Those on the beach can watch the car ferries ploughing back and forth between Limenas and Keramouti, far enough offshore not to be a nuisance although bow waves can catch you unawares.
In the distance you can make out Limenas and the uninhabited islet of Thassopoulou lies offshore for added interest.
