Golden Beach Thassos

GOLDEN BEACH Thassos, also called CHRYSI AMMOUDIA or CHRISI ATKI is a huge swathe of sand located on the eastern side of the island between the Thassos island villages of Skala Panagias and Skala Potamia,.
Golden Beach is just that, a southeast-facing 2km stretch of golden sand, set in a wide, open bay and backed by a deep flat plain that is criss-crossed by narrow roads and dotted with many small apartments and villas.
A long straight road links the two ends of Golden Beach with Skala Panagia tot he north and Skala Potamia in the south. There are several narrow roads and tracks that branching off the main road and lead down to the sea.
The northen end of Golden Beach has a bank of fine sand backed by trees providing natural shade and a small offshore jetty where the daily tour boats can pull in, although it's quite a walk to the beach if you are dropped off here.
The sandy extremities are separated by a central section of flat scrub where the sand gets steadily more scruffy, with seaweed and stones underfoot. As the road along the back of the beach curves in to meet the sea the beach disappears.
The southern end of Golden Beach, at Skala Potamis, is by far the most developed for holiday tourism with extensive, though unintrusive, facilities at the back of the beach. A large triangle of sharp white sand is lined with sunbeds and there is a small harbour for boats to tie up
There is no natural shade here and it's rather exposed but this is very much the tourist end of the beach with sunbeds along the shore and an 'avenue' of tavernas and cafes along the back of Golden Beach
