Makryammos Thassos

Considered by some to be one of the most picturesque beaches on Thassos, the white sand bay at MAKRYAMMOS beach, about 2km east of Limenas, is dominated by the Makryammos Bungalows holiday camp hotel complex.
The approach from the main Makryammos road has 'Private' signs and the bungalow complex appears to lay claim to much of the hillside but the beach is public, although the company boasts of a 'private' beach in its holiday literature.
Makryammos beach is not a private beach and there is nothing to stop you wandering through the bungalow complex and down to the sands if you want to.
The alternative approach is by boat and there are several daily sailings to Makryammos from the harbour at Limenas that will pick you up again at teatime. As the sea route is much longer than the walk it is probably best to do the latter if you want to get to the beach a little earlier in the day.
Makryammos beach is set in a pine-sheltered bay and is pretty well crammed with sunbeds, umbrellas and all the usual facilities you might expect on an organised family holiday beach.
There is a self service café behind the beach that serves ketchup, coke and chips and it holds organised barbecue nights for those saying in Makryammos bungalows. It's a bit like a Greek Butlins.
On the good side, Makryammos has fine white sand set in a lovely bay and forest surroundings so you don't really notice the Makryammos bungalows behind, although their proximity does mean that the beach is almost permanently crowded. The sea is shallow so Makryammos is a good family beach.
On the negative side are the mounds of rotting seaweed and pine needles that tend to collect in Makryammos bay and attract wasps and flies.
