Makryammos Thassos

Considered by some to be one of the most picturesque beaches on Thassos, the white sand bay at MAKRYAMMOS, about 2km east of Limenas, is dominated by the Makryammos Bungalows holiday camp hotel complex.
The approach from the main Makryammos road has 'Private' signs and the bungalow complex may lay claim to the hillside but the beach is public even though the company boasts 'private' beach in its literature.
Makryammos beach is not a private beach and there is nothing to stop you wandering through the bungalow complex and down to the sands if you want to.
The alternative approach is by boat and there are several daily sailings from Limenas that will pick you up again at teatime. As the sea route is much longer than the walk it probably best to do the latter.
Makryammos beach is in a sheltered bay with plenty of sun beds, umbrellas and the usual facilities you expect on an organised beach.
There is a self service café behind the beach that serves ketchup coke and chips as well as organised barbecue nights. It's a bit like a Greek Butlins camp.
On the good side Makryammos has fine white sand in a lovely bay and forest surroundings so you don't really notice the bungalows behind, though they do mean that the beach is almost permanently crowded. The sea is shallow so it's a good family beach.
On the bad side are the mounds of rotting seaweed and pine needles that tend to collect in the bay attracting wasps and flies.
