The beach at NYSTERI is only a short distance from the capital port at Limenas and a good alternative to the town beach which can get very busy at times. Nysteri is ideal for those staying at the western edge of Thassos Town among the many new apartment blocks that have sprung up around this area in recent years.
Nysteri is a short climb along the main road to the top of the headland. There are several pull-in places to park a car and there are rough tracks leading down to the beach.
The Nysteri Hotel sits on the hillside at the western end of the beach and its is well obscured by trees and bushes. Nysteri has a long sandy beach, narrow in places but gently shelving into the sea where it is also sandy underfoot. There is a small outcrop of rocks at the northern end.
The back of Nysteri beach has an area of flat woodland and scrub that leads to a small taverna, hidden in the trees, so there is plenty of natural shade to be found. Sunbeds and umbrellas are provided by the hotel and taverna and a changing room has appeared recently.
Paths through the woods at the back of Nysteri beach offer plenty of walking for those wishing to explore the area and, over the road above, there is more serious walking to be found in the hills.
Those staying on the beach can watch the car ferries ploughing back and forth between Limenas and Keramouti, far enough offshore not to be a nuisance, although bow waves can sometimes catch beach bathers unawares.
In the distance, you can make out Limenas and the uninhabited offshore islet of Thassopoulou adds interest.
