LIMN KERIOU or LAKE KERI is a picturesque and peaceful resort on the south coast of Zante about 20km from Zakynthos town and located on the western side of Laganas Bay.
A delightful enclosed harbour set below a pretty village and small, sand and pebble beach makes Limni Keriou a well-known Zante beauty spot. It has only 150 permanent inhabitants but the numbers swell dramatically in summer
The beach slopes fairly gently into shallow waters so it is fine for families with children. A sprinkling of tavernas and café bars line both the beach and the attractive harbour in Limni Keriou.
Inland is the small village of Keri where there are several craft and souvenir shops among the traditional stone houses set in the narrow streets.
Surrounded by pine covered mountains, Limni Keriou has some good walks through forests and olive groves and a walk up to the Limni Keri Lighthouse offers some fine views over the bay.
A diving centres is based in Limni Keriou there are some spectacular dive sites offshore that include some extensive underwater caves to explore. Glimpses of octopus, moray, lobsters and groupers are virtually guaranteed.
Regular taxi boats leave regularly for the offshore islet of Marathonis, also known as Turtle Island. Limni Keriou excursion boats also tour the many caves that can be found along this part of the Zante coast.
The best known cave, called Mavri Limni, or Black Lake, is big enough to take a swim although you will need a torch as it is so dark in there.
A few rooms to let are available but most get booked up in the high season and Limni Keriou has become a popular spot for tour operators in recent years. A medical centre is available 9km away at Pantocratoras and there are a few daily buses to Zakynthos Town.
