Agios Nikolaos beach Zante (north)

This is the north-western beach of AGIOS NIKOLAOS locatd in the Skinari region and should not to be confused with the more popular Zante holiday resort of the same name to be found in the south-east of Zante island.
The northern harbour resort of Agios Nikolaos is much smaller than its sister in the south but this one has of the best sheltered harbours on Zante island. So it is from here that fmany erries call in from the nearby Greek island of Kefalonia.
The beach at Agios Nikolaos is mostly composed of small pebbles and the beach shelves deeply into the sea, so it's not a good beach for children or one for poor swimmers.
Beyond the harbour at Agios Nikolaos is a small uninhabited islet that is reachable by strong swimmers, although it's not recommended when the wind is up as the underwater currents can be strong and unpredictable.
Agios Nikolaos is in a very tranquil part of the Zante, well off the usual holiday tourist trail and far removed from the more commercial resorts that can be found on the rest of the island.
To the north of Agios Nikolaos are the impressively steep cliffs that house the famous, and often visited, Zante island Blue Caves.
Around the northern point of Zante is the even more famous Navagio beach, better known as Shipwreck Beach, the target of many holiday day trip boats.
