PORTO ROMA is a small sand and pebble beach that lies on the Vassilikos peninsula to the south-east of Zante.
The beach is found just over the headland from Gerakas, on the east coast of the long finger of the Geraki peninsula, about 18km from Zakynthos Town.
Even more off the beaten track than most of the other beaches in this part of the world, Porto Roma is often by-passed as visitors head for the bigger and better-known beach at Gerakas.
Porto Roma is a quiet, picturesque beach with a tiny fishing port. It has five tavernas and a couple of small shops so it is not short of facilities.
Sunbeds and brollies are available on the beach and the water is shallow and calm so this is a nice spot for families with children.
Despite its reputation as one of the most attractive beaches on Zante island, it is still strangely ignored by holidaymakers and it's not unusual to see only a few people on Porto Roma beach all day.
There are no hotels in the area yet, just a few expensive looking luxury villas and some high quality apartments. This may help account for the lack of crowds
There are plenty of good walking trails in the area behind the resort. Paths snake through pine forests and olive groves, with the popular beach at Gerakas just a few minutes walk away.
