PORTO ROMA is a small sand and pebble beach that lies just over the headland from Gerakas on the east cost of the long Geraki peninsula, about 18km from Zakynthos Town.
Even more off the beaten track than other beaches in this part of the world, Porto Roma is often by-passed by those heading for the bigger beach at Gerakas.
Porto Roma is a quiet, picturesque beach with a tiny fishing port, five tavernas and a couple of small shops. Sunbeds and brollies are available and the water is shallow and calm.
Despite its reputation as one of the most attractive beaches on Zante island it is still largely ignored by holidaymakers and it is not unusual to see only a few people on Porto Roma beach all day.
There are no hotels in the area yet, just a few expensive looking luxury villas and some high quality apartments.
There are plenty of good walking trails in the area through pine forests and olive groves, with the beach at Gerakas just a few minutes walk away.
